Do I need the full TAE upgrade or just the single mandated units?

The Department of Education & Training has deemed that as of July 1st 2019, all trainers & assessors practising in the VET sector need to hold the TAE40110 Certificate plus two additional units;

  • TAEASS502 – Design & develop assessment tools
  • TAELLN411 – Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills

The TAE Upgrade from the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to the TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment incorporates the two mandated units listed above and two additional units that have been deemed not equivalent; these units are:

  • TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes
  • TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation

The above units were previously included in the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, however, an additional element was added to TAEASS401 Plan assessment activities and processes, which is “Identify modification and contextualisation requirements”. For the unit TAEASS403 Participate in assessment validation, additional performance criteria have been added. It is for this reason gap training and assessments are required for these units.

Please note, holding a higher-level qualification (Diploma or above) in adult education may mean you are exempt from having to attain these units. For further information, please consult your employer and refer to ASQA’s direction found here:
